The Origin of Taoism

Taoism has a long history in China. It originated from ancient shamanism, nature religion and the thoughts of Laozi, Zhuangzi and others. Laozi, who lived around the 6th century BC, is regarded as its founder. His Tao Te Ching is a classic work. In 142 CE, Zhang Daoling established the first organized Taoist school.

The ritual instruments of this Taoist sect can generate a certain amount of magical power, blessing oneself and one’s family with safety.
